Women Make Less Than Men at Every Education Level
Among Americans with some form of post-high school education—a vocational, associate’s, bachelor’s, or advanced degree—men make more than $800 above women’s pay every month. And the gap widens as men and women climb educational ranks. In short, education is valuable, but it’s most lucrative if you’re male.

Seldom has the conservative hostility to general book-learning been rendered so tersely. In addition to the apparent conviction that faith and knowing stuff cannot possibly coexist, there is also the general presumption of children as empty objects. They *should* be indoctrinated, and “remade”; the only question in Santorum’s mind is who should do it. The beliefs Rick Santorum intends to pour into his children are apparently so fragile that they cannot survive exposure to literally any other contrary knowledge. He will homeschool his children; they will grow up to have random “jobs” that reflect the jobs their parents wish them to have; they will correctly fear and despise the suspicious black president, because their parents tell them to. In response to Rick Santorum’s recent (bonkers) crusade against higher education. (via desroubins)

President of the Day: A brand new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll released today predicts that if the elections were held today, Rick Santorum — the presidential candidate who believes that pregnant rape victims should make the best of it, that free prenatal testing leads to more abortions, and that, contrary to the Constitution, the separation of church and state should not be absolute — would defeat President Obama by three percentage points.

Tumblr, let’s do something about this.

This is terrifying.

Yeah, we paid to take your land away from you against your will! That makes it fair.

What the fuck is this? This person cannot even be real.

Today there are more African-Americans under correctional control — in prison or jail, on probation or parole — than were enslaved in 1850, a decade before the Civil War began. Yeah, so

It’s a nice day out, and I have a Confederate flag hanging in my window.  When the sun hits it, it turns my room awesomely red. Plus it helps darken the room, on other days.  Two black dudes and one white dude are walking up to the dorms.  They notice my flag, so they decided to stand there for a few minutes and gaze.  I couldn’t hear what they said because I was to busy enjoying Skynyrd; I’m sure it wasn’t positive though. I don’t know where they’re from, nor do I really care.  Don’t act like you ain’t ever seen the flag before, and then act like it’s a racist symbol.  The only people I am discriminatory towards are stupid people. All I am trying to say, is don’t freak out when you see the Confederate flag.  Chances are the person flying it is not ignorant, but actually a junior in college with a 3.4 overall GPA, a religious studies major, and has signed up to fight for your freedom for at least 4 years after college.  If you want to stare at a flag, how about stare at the one on the third floor with the giant pot leaf on it.  They are promoting something that is illegal…

TL;DR: Rant.

Yeah so. You saw two Black guys staring at your flag and you’re pretty sure it wasn’t something positive? Is that maybe because you know deep down that they had to wonder whether or not you’re in the KKK (which flies that flag) or one of the Neo-Nazi groups that fly that flag or one of the many, many, many white supremacists that fly that flag? Or maybe they just think that you’re a traitor against your country considering that flying the flag of a defeated rebellion against the government actually is considered an act of treason? Or maybe they were just assuming that you’re a staunch opponent of civil rights considering that the flag was used by groups that were in opposition of the civil rights movement.

Or maybe they were just wondering how somebody could make it all the way to college and not know the entire history of that flag and the whole whopping shitpile of racism behind it.

Most likely they were just feeling sorry for ya.

There there.

TRIGGER WARNING: BLATANT FUCKING RACISM.

Ok.

So. Disney Channel’s relatively new show Jessie features a girl nannying for the adopted children of a pair of hollywood moguls. One of these children is the Indian boy named Ravi, who comes into the clip at about 0:50.

This character is pretty much the most blatant racism I have seen on a tv show, especially directed towards kids, in a very long fucking time, if not IN MY WHOLE LIFE.

The whole character hinges on the idea that Ravi is Indian! and has quirky Indian culture! and doesn’t know about American things! and has a lizard named MR. KIPLING and says things like “I AM A HUMAN SAMOSA!!” when inside a sleeping bag and just

that’s it

that’s the joke

the joke is that he is Indian

I mean seriously just watch this clip I cannot even talk about this

The fact that this is airing right now and no one is outraged and Disney is AIRING THIS RIGHT NOW

makes me want to punch things and also cry out of fucking frustration this is terrible

Commenting is disabled on the Youtube video but I just thumbs-downed the fuck out of this video.

UGH WHAT THE FUCK

Wow, it’s like Outsourced for kids/tweens…

-Joe

Wow seriously Disney? Really? You preach diversity and acceptance and this is how you treat people of other cultures? By blatantly discriminating against them, giving them overly obvious accents and then making fun of their clothing? Culture isn’t something to be made fun of, and by making the fact that this child is INDIAN the joke, you’re sending the message out there that its okay to be racist. That its okay to stereotype, generalize, and group people into a stupid narrow minded category. That its okay to make fun of someone else’s culture. You should be educating kids to not be ignorant. That someone’s nationality or ethnicity doesn’t define them, that they are just human being. Like everyone else. Oh, and not to mention you’re airing this right now? In a world that is supposed to be accepting to everyone. Wow.

This is seriously so fucked up.
